International candidates can receive financial support for their university studies through the University of Montreal (UdeM) Scholarships, which offer exemption from typical tuition fees. Amongst others, sudents have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Montreal, a city recognized as one of the top ten university cities in the world. This multicultural metropolis, which blends North American innovation with European charm, is renowned for its diversity.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the University of Montreal Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants should have received an offer of admission to a study program at UdeM for the Fall 2020 session.
- Applicants must hold valid study authorizations (CAQ and study permit) for all sessions of their study program. For more information, please refer to the web page on immigration procedures.
- Applicants must continuously enroll as full-time students throughout their entire study program unless their absence is approved.
- Applicants must not be benefiting from any other form of tuition fee exemption.
- Applicants must not enroll in an independent study program.
- Applicants must not be admitted to the following undergraduate programs starting with the Winter 2024 session:
- certificate
- major
- minor
- short program
- preparatory year program for university studies.
Benefits
Undergraduate:
- Level A: $2 sessions each year, or 30 credits, for $13,340.40; each session is worth $15 credits; each credit is worth $444.68.
- Level B: $3,178.80 per session (15 credits) or $211.92 per credit ($6,357.60 per year for two sessions, or 30 credits).
Master’s course of study:
- Non-research: $10,474.65 annually for three sessions, or 45 credits; or $3,491.55 for each session, or 15 credits; or $232.77 for each credit.
This sum is placed towards the annual tuition of $30,829.50 (45 credits)* for tuition fees.
- Research: $3,449.25 per session (equal to 15 credits) or $229.95 per credit ($10,347.75 per year for three sessions, or 45 credits)
This sum is applied to the annual tuition of $295,592 for 45 credits.
Ph.D. program:
The annual fee for the Ph.D. program is $22,241.25, which covers 3 sessions or 45 credits. Alternatively, the cost per session is $7,413.75 (equivalent to 15 credits) or $494.25 per credit. The tuition fees, which amount to $26,562.60 per year for 45 credits, will be charged accordingly.
How to Apply
- Apply for Admission: Before filling out the application form, please ensure that you know the application deadlines and have checked the admission requirements for the study programs you are interested in.

- Follow Up on Your File and Receive an Offer of Admission: After submitting your application, you will be able to check the status of your application and receive the admission notice in your Centre étudiant.
- Accept the Offer of Admission to Start the Evaluation: You do not need to apply for a UdeM Exemption Scholarship. The eligibility of new candidates will be evaluated to determine the amount of their exemption scholarship.
- Receive the Notice of Award with the Amount: After receiving your admission offer, the Université de Montréal will inform you promptly via email about the amount of the scholarship you are entitled to. Please print and keep this document in a safe place as it will be useful for future reference.
