SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS :
Applications are open for the Rhodes West Africa Scholarships 2026. The Rhodes Scholarships, the world’s oldest, established in 1903.
Administered by the Rhodes Trust in Oxford, the scheme awards 100 fully funded scholarships annually for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford, UK.
The scholarships are for outstanding young leaders of intellect and character.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, applicants must satisfy the following :
- Nationality and Residency
- Be a citizen of any of the west african countries.
- Have lived in one of these countries for at least the last five years
- Age Requirements
- Applicants must satisfy one of the following :
- Be born between 2 October 2000 and 1 October 2007) ; or
- For medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law, and engineering students, be born between 2 October 1999 and 1 October 2007) ; or
- Be under 27 on 1 October 2025 (born after 1 October 1998) and have completed an undergraduate degree by October 2024.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree by the application deadline.
- Hold a First Class Honours degree or equivalent
- For Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, distinctions may be accepted as equivalent to First Class Honours.
- Medical applicants should have distinctions in at least three of these areas : Medicine & Surgery, Pathology, Pharmacology, Gynaecology, and Paediatrics.
- Additional Advantage
- Applicants who have earned a degree outside their home country, or studied to master’s level within their country may be strongly considered
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

- Identity, Citizenship, and Age Verification
- Submit at least two of the following :
- Birth certificate
- National ID card
- Valid passport
- Voter’s card
- Notarized affidavit confirming citizenship
- Academic and Residency Documents
- Official university transcript
- Proof of residency in an eligible country for at least the last five years
- Meet the University of Oxford English language requirements through :
- A recognized test score such as TOEFL or IELTS ; or
- A waiver request letter if undergraduate degree was taught and assessed in English, with relevant evidence.
