The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship will be granted based solely on academic merit. The Scholarship comprises two awards, each worth a total of £32,500, which will be allocated to tuition fees.
Crucially, the scholarship does not cover maintenance support or accommodation expenses, and as a result, it is the responsibility of applicants to consider the costs associated with living in London before applying for this scholarship.
Furthermore, the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship is only available for the academic year 2024/25. Therefore, students who receive the scholarship must enrol and begin studies in the same academic year and cannot defer to a later year.
The College of Humanities offers full-time Master’s programmes, excluding an MA(Master of Arts) in Buddhist Studies, an MA(Master of Arts) in Buddhist Studies with Intensive Language, and an MA in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation. Students are eligible to apply for any Master’s programme within the College of Humanities such as:

Eligibility
These are the conditions to be eligible:
- One must reside in countries categorized as low-income or lower-middle-income by the World Bank. It is preferred if the applicant is from low-income households.
- Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree at first-class level.
- New scholarship applicants are required to have applied to SOAS(School of Oriental and African Studies), but they do not need to have received an offer of admission by the scholarship deadline. However, an offer must be received by the time the relevant panel meets to discuss scholarship applications.
- Applicants must fulfil the English language requirement in their admission offer to SOAS(School of Oriental and African Studies) as soon as possible.
- The Allan and Nesta Ferguson scholarships do not provide funding or even permit for Pre-sessionals.
- Applicants will be judged according to their academic standing.
- The application will be evaluated using the data you submitted for the award. Selectors will review your statement and any other pertinent material in addition to the degree outcomes.
Benefits
A total sum of £34,500, which will be included in the tuition fees.
How to Apply
The scholarship application involves the application for your program with the following required documents:
- Academic qualifications: provide transcripts attesting to your completion of or predicted completion of the prerequisite courses. You should also provide your certificate if you have finished your qualification. You must submit certified English translations together with the original language documents if they are not in English.
- Although it is not required at the time of application, providing documentation of your proficiency in English will facilitate the processing of your application.
- A passport copy.
- A resume
- Supporting statement: A supporting statement with Approximately 1000 words, using personal words.
