Description
Professor Bram Nauta’s Integrated Circuit Design (ICD) group focuses on various aspects of analog and Radio Frequency (RF) Integrated Circuits (IC). The group’s motto is “fundamental solutions for practical problems” and under this vision, it has contributed many fundamental new ideas in circuit design. The IC Design group has made high-impact inventions in analog filters, thermal noise canceling amplifiers, ultra-low power analog to digital converters, software-defined radio, mixer-first receivers, N-path filters and sub-sampling phase locked loops.
Value
Salary is ranging from €2.541,- gross per month at the start to €3.247,- in the fourth year; excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a solid pension scheme. You will also benefit from a training program in which you and your supervisor will make up a plan for additional suitable education and supervision.

- PHD CANDIDATE IN CHARACTERIZATION OF PHOTO-CATALYTIC NANOPARTICLES USING IN SITU ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPY
Description
As a PhD student you will develop and use AFM-based spectroscopy to nanoscopically characterize the interfaces between electrolyte, semiconductor- and cocatalyst-nanoparticles under photocatalytic operating conditions (e. g. in liquid, under applied bias and illumination) and to establish surface property-catalytic activity correlations. Atomic scale surface structure, charge density, hydration state and morphology are assessed using amplitude modulation AFM.

- Salary is € 2.541,- in the first year and increases to € 3.247,- in the fourth year; full status as an employee at the UT, including pension and health care benefits; a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%; The number of holiday hours for full-time employment is 232 hours per calendar year; a personal development program within the Twente Graduate School.

- For this ambitious project, we are looking for well-motivated candidates with excellent academic skills. A Master’s degree in physics is required;
- Knowledge and ‘hands on’ experiences in experimental physics, signal and data processing, colloid science, and a strong interest/experience in scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy are considered highly advantageous;
- Some programming experience is also desirable (pre-existing experience of MATLAB and/or Python would be particularly useful).

- PHD-STUDENT ADVANCED BIOADHESIVES FOR LUNG TISSUE
Description
The PhD candidate position is available immediately. In this project, novel lung adhesive biomaterials will be developed for realization of an innovative treatment of lung diseases and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in particular. This approach represents a beyond-state-of-the-art solution with huge clinical potential, which the candidate will contribute by developing and testing a crosslinkable hydrogel that is adhesive to either lung tissue or lung mucus. In collaboration with University Medical Centre Groningen the hydrogel will be thoroughly analyzed using advanced in vitro models and even human lung tissue.

- FULLTIME PHD CANDIDATE IN PATIENT ENGAGEMENT THROUGH VIRTUAL REALITY
Description
This PhD project is part of the 4TU RECENTRE project (patient engagement work package). In the RECENTRE consortium, deep-tech sensor technology will be developed to monitor the health of people with cancer or obesity in their home setting. Predictive patient profiling and risk modelling methods will be developed to identify people with cancer or obesity who may benefit from personalized and adaptive lifestyle recommendations. You will have a chance to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other PhD Candidates and researchers from the fields of engineering, mathematics, nutrition sciences, social sciences and psychology. Input from the other work packages will continuously and bidirectionally inform the research in this PhD project.

- Affinity and/or experience with working in an interdisciplinary team, and to learn from and collaborate with people with various backgrounds.
- Affinity and/or experience with both qualitative and quantitative research and analysis (mixed methods is a pre).
