- PhD Student in Inorganic Chemistry
Description
Multiferroic materials combine magnetic and electric order and find uses in e.g. data storage, yet a considerable problem in this field is the lack of known multiferroics. This project tackles this challenge by aiming to develop new multiferroic materials based on the metal–cyanide coordination polymers known as Prussian blue analogues. While their magnetic properties have been relatively well studied, the prerequisite for ferroelectricity was only recently observed, and the project thus aims to combine these two properties.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the synthesis and structural characterisation of a range of Prussian blue analogues. Both X-ray and neutron diffraction will be used, possibly under high pressure and variable temperature, as well as magnetic measurements and local structure studies using pair distribution function studies. A significant proportion of the research will be carried out at synchrotrons and neutron sources. At the end of the project, the candidate will have gained valuable experience in synthesis, crystallography, and material characterization of coordination polymers using a range of advanced techniques.
Eligibility
Successful applicants should have the following qualities and qualifications:
- M.Sc. degree related fields.
- Experience of crystallography and MOFs/perovskites/coordination polymers is desirable. Candidates with a solid foundation and interest in crystallography, solid-state chemistry/physics, and/or materials science are encouraged to apply.
- Good knowledge of English, both orally and in writing.
- Creative mindset and capability to adapt to a dynamic international environment.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- Cover Letter.
- Project or Research Proposal.
- Letters of Recommendation.
- Degree Thesis

- PhD Student in Biodegradable Electronics
Description
Transient technologies aim to ensure that all device components degrade after the intended use into non-toxic and even biologically friendly products. Key challenges are to develop materials combining compatibility with fabrication processes, stable performance in environmental and/or physiological conditions, and degradation. This project aims to develop electrochemical devices based on biodegradable materials. The work is highly interdisciplinary, including materials development, device fabrication, and aspects of materials degradation in biological environments. It will address several research challenges, from fabrication using degradable components to device stability in contact with aqueous electrolytes and materials degradation after the device lifecycle.
Eligibility
The ideal applicant is proactive and equipped with a problem-solving mindset. The ambition to conduct interdisciplinary research at the broad breadth of materials chemistry, device physics, and biology is an asset. Candidates with experience with organic semiconductors, development of organic electrochemical transistors, characterization of biodegradable polymer materials, and sterile techniques for cell culture are encouraged to apply. The applicant should have a good knowledge of English, both orally and in writing.

- PhD student in Environmental Science focusing on biogenic volatile organic compounds and aerosols (2) Stockholm
Description
The Department of Environmental Science is seeking two PhD students to work with on the project “Feedbacks between a changing climate and vegetation: The role of volatile organic compounds and biogenic aerosols (CLIVE)” funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. Goal of the project is to study a small fraction of the carbon taken up by plants and which is released back into the atmosphere as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). A small fraction with a big impact on climate as the VOCs are precursors for atmospheric organic aerosols. The research will focus on better quantification of the current and future climate impact of forests via VOC emissions and their interactions with clouds, aerosols and related feedback. We also aim on improved understanding of connections between VOCs emissions and their composition and plant physiology and evapotranspiration.
Application Documents
For consideration, interested applicants should submit the following documents:
- MSc. degree related fields.
