Rhodes Scholarship aims to identify young leaders from around the world who, through the pursuit of education together at Oxford, would forge bonds of mutual understanding and fellowship for the betterment of mankind.
Rhodes Scholarship Description
The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity for young people worldwide to study at the University of Oxford. Applicant can apply for a postgraduate course at Oxford University and receive funding for two or more years.
The Global Scholarships allow eligible candidates from the rest of the world (i.e. not connected to any other Rhodes Scholarships Constituency) to apply for a Scholarship, subject to nomination.
Applicant can request and receive nomination through the application form itself, applicant will not be able to submit an application for a Global Rhodes Scholarship unless a nomination from your institution has been received.
Applicant’s eligibility for the Global Scholarship must also be confirmed by a member of the Rhodes House team. This will be done through the application form but applicant will only be able to submit once having received approval.
Rhodes Scholarship Eligiblity Requirements
- Applicant must be a citizen of a country not eligible for other Rhodes scholarships.
- Applicant must be 18-23 years old (or 27 if you completed your first degree later).
- Applicant must have completed your first degree by July 2025.
- Applicant must meet Oxford University’s academic requirements.
- Applicant must meet English language requirements.
Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship would cover the following;
- Oxford University course fees.
- Annual stipend (£19,092).
- Flight costs to and from the UK.
- Visa fees and health surcharge.
- Selected candidates will also get a monthly stipend.
Selection Criteria for the Scholarship
Selection is made without regard to gender, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, race, ethnic origin, colour, religion, social background, caste, or disability.
The criteria which determined the first Rhodes Scholars in 1902 still guide us today, which are:
- Literary and scholastic attainments (academic excellence).
- Energy to use one’s talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved).
- Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship.
- Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.
How to Apply
To apply for The Rhodes Scholarship, applicants must following steps;
- Complete the online application form by August 1, 2024.
- Provide required documents, including transcripts, Circullum Vitae, and personal statement.
- Get four referees to support your application.
