The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships programme is fully funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with the aim of contributing to developments in the African region.
The In-Country/In-Region programme aims to contribute to train highly qualified professionals and managerial staff for sustainable development in the partner countries.
The programme thus offers scholarships to future university teachers from developing countries for postgraduate studies
Recipients of the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships study at universities in their home country or at highly qualified institutions in the region, some of which are organised in networks.

Requirements for DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships :
To be considered for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships, you must satisfy the following conditions :
- Be Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme.
- Be candidates who want to pursue Master’s degrees in their home country or in the country for which they have a residence permit (so called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country, outside their home country/in the country for which they do not have a residence permit (so called In-Region scholarships).
- Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.
Benefits of DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships 2026
For the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships, funding is provided for the usual duration of a course – generally, up to two years for Masters degree programmes.
